  • University of Ghent: LL.B in Law (cum laude) 1983;
  • University of Ghent :LL.M in European Law ( magna cum laude) 1984

 

Law Practice:

  • Attorney-at-Law, Member of the Belgian Bar since 1984
  • Associate & Partner of Law office van Hille 1984-1995
  • Senior partner (EU & Int’l Trade Law Department) & Head of the Law office Vlaemminck & Partners since 1995

 

Mainly working in EU and International Trade law (internal market, competition law, EMU, agricultural law, WTO and antidumping)

Directly involved in WTO Dispute Settlement procedures ( Panel , Arbitration, and worldwide one of the first five lawyers before the "Appellate Body of the WTO" representing a WTO member- in the case European Communities–Regime for the importation, sale and distribution of bananas –AB-1997-3, Complaint by Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico & the United States).

Involved in the final stage of the Uruguay Round in Geneva and Marrakech 93-94

 

Academic:

  • Part-time teaching assistant at the University of Ghent-Department European Law from 1984 till 1994 assisting Prof. Dr. M. Maresceau (agricultural law, GATT, competition law)
  • Guest lecturer at the University of Ghent in 1995 "Jean Monnet courses on European Integration": The Uruguay Round;
  • Guest lecturer at the University of Ghent in 1997: The Banana trade war before the Court of Justice and the WTO.
  • Visiting Professor in European law ( European judicial protection) at the University of Ghent, 1998-1999.
  • Speaker at different congresses and seminars, in 1998 among others in Vienna, The Hague, Rome, Prague and Bucharest, in 1999 in Barcelona, Budapest, St-Julians(Malta) and in 2000 in Noordwijkerhout, Salamanca and Bratislava.
